These Maasai women are performing a dance to welcome us to their arts and crafts market. Such pride, joy, and talent in their faces and performance. The Maasai women have started their own cooperative where they produce arts and crafts and sell them to have their own spending money for home and children. This has empowered the women to become more self-reliant. As has been seen in many countries, a little extra money and control given to the women in a community produces multiples of benefit for the community as a whole.
The Maasai are traditionally a nomadic people with strong hunting routes. They are polygamous and often the women live in a small group of huts in a common homestead. This Maasai woman holds her child during our visit to their BOMA. These women are very strong and self-reliant, even having to build their own hut with their own hands. www.rajguptaphotography.com
