Read MoreSunrise over Haleakala
This is the sunrise over Haleakala. Haleakala is the tallest volcano on Maui and the second tallest in Hawaii. We woke up at 2:00 am and took a shuttle bus to the top of the volcano. We were up there at 5:30 before the sun had started to rise. We could see so many stars, because there is no light pollution this high up. It was cold and windy, but when the sun rose and we were above the clouds looking down into the crater of the volcano, it was quite a sight! http://www.rajguptaphotography.com

Elephants have such a majesty to them and getting close to an elephant isn't always easy. I used a long telephoto lens to really get the details of this elephant's face, ear and skin to create an intimate portrait of the animal.
I feel that the eye tells such an amazing story by itself and really draws the viewer in. Just because something is big and interesting doesn't mean you have to use a wide picture to tell the story. Sometimes just a small detail tells more information.
I converted the image to black and white with a slight sepia toning so people focus on the contrast and lines on the elephant's face and skin rather than any specific color while still giving it a warm, earthy feel.

Bowing to the Sunset. #ThatWanakaTree www.rajguptaphotography.com
This solitary tree in the middle of Lake Wanaka is a unique landmark in this small town outside of Qeenstown, New Zealand. The story is that this once a fence post for sheep but the area became flooded by the lake. All the other fence posts washed away, but this one took root and grew into a tree.
